Hi, my name is Dave and I’m going to talk to you about “how to get more people to your website” maybe your a newbie to the world of affiliate marketing or maybe you are well seasoned and just looking for fresh ideas. Either way I know you will find this content of interest to you! This article is focused on SEO (search engine optimization) and how to get free traffic to your website.
Let’s talk a little about search engine optimization (SEO). This is where you optimize your site for higher rankings in the search engines, this method is known as obtaining organic traffic to your site. I like the idea of getting more people to my website for free because it’s a challenge and involves implementing a number of techniques when done correctly will mean getting high rankings in the serps (search engine results page). The end result will be a lot of traffic to your website.
There are a number of things you can do to achieve good SEO, let’s start with where to put your keyword, ideally you should have your keyword that you are trying to rank for in your main title. This does’nt mean it has to be just your keyword in there, just make sure your keyword is part of your title.
Also you should have your keyword in the first paragraph of your post, after that it is a matter of writing genuine content that is relevent to what your title suggests, as a result of this the search engines will pick up other keywords just as a matter of you writing naturally, these keywords are known as LSI (latent semantic indexing) keywords.
Don’t over use your keyword in your article as this could be seen as keyword spaming and you could be punished for this by google.
On the subject of titles your meta title is something that you should optimize for the search engines and also for your audience.
Take a look at the image below!
This is a screenshot from the serps, (search engine result page). When somebody googles “best way to learn affiliate marketing” or another related keyword this is the content they will get, so it is best if you have this optimized. Outlined in blue is the meta title, this information you have control over which means you can write your own words here, you can use 55 characters in your meta title so you should enter your post/page title here, and you will probably have room for a short snippet of text something that will capture the attention of the reader.
Take a look at the image below.
This area outlined in red is your meta description. This should also include your title, if you notice in the description above google has high-lighted the title by putting it in bold, “best way to learn affiliate marketing”. The description area has space for 155 characters so you should utilize this space to gain an advantage over your competitors. This can be achieved by entering a short message outlining what your website has to offer and how it will help by providing the necessary information that your audience requires.
This will help your audience to get a better understanding what your article is all about and improve your seo.
By filling in your meta title and description you are helping with your rankings as the search engine bots will take note of this when they scan your site. Otherwise the search engines will auto-fill this for you with a snippet of text taken from your content, and this may not be the snippet you want as the first impression of your website.
Your main title should be a H1, after that you can use H2 or H3 headings to define the different topics throughout your article, also don’t be afraid to break up your content into short paragraphs, this looks better and makes it easier for your audience to digest.
Adding images is something that is also important. But remember they must be images that are relevant to your content, something that will give your audience more insight into what your talking about, “a picture paints a thousand words” this is so true, a good image says it all. Make sure your images are wrapped around text so that you get a professional looking site.
Into your image you need to add an alt tag. This is a description in a few words of what the image is about, it will help with visually impaired people that may be receiving your content via audio.
This will be picked up by the search engines that scan your site and may give a boost in rankings.
The screenshot on the right shows where you can add this description, this window will open when you are adding an image, you should also add the same into the title area just under the url.
If you want to elaborate further you can fill in more text in the description area just below the alt text.
There will be areas throughout your site where you will want to link to other content. An Internal link is where you link to another page on your site. This can be used to make easy navigation for your readers to gain more access to your content, it is important that the link leads to content that is relevant to the subject in hand.
An external link is a link going outside your site such as a link to wikipedia or an authority site. This will give your readers the chance to explore relevant information outside your site from your site.
A deep link is a link leading back to your site, such as a link from social media back to your site. This is a great way to get more traffic to your site.
All links that are done properly will help with SEO (search engine optimization).
Call To Action
A call to action (CTA) is what you should have at the end of your page. A call to action is what you tell your audience to do next, in other words instructions on what action they should take to advance to the next stage.
This is important because you don’t want your audience lost for direction when they get to the end of your article.
This is important from a readers point of view because there’s nothing more frustrating than getting to the end of an article and not having all the answers and not knowing where to go to find them.
It’s also important from your point of view because you want your readers to follow a particular path in order to achieve the end goal that you have set out for them.
On page SEO
All of the above content is “on page SEO”. The other type of SEO is, yes you guessed it.. “off page SEO”. This may sound obvious, but, on page SEO is all the work that you do on your website and off page SEO is work done outside your website but connects back to your site, such as posting on social media etc.
So let’s now take a look at some off page seo.
Social media is the fastest way to get the word out there relating to anything these days. There are a lot of networks to choose from.. should you opt for paid ad’s on facebook? or just take the time to build your network of followers? The latter is probably more sustainable and is probably the best route to take, nothing wrong with promoting on facebook, but I think google+ has everything facebook has to offer and more, take a look at this extract from wikipedia
I think the number 1 choice has to be google+. Why google+?.. well, simply because google owns google+ and google is the largest of the search engines and this is where you want to be ranked on the first page of google for your particular keyword.
In other words what you do in google+ will be noted by google and result in you getting a boost in the right direction, assuming you are putting content on there that is relevant to your website of course.
If you don’t already have an account on google+ then I think setting one up would be very beneficial, it won’t take that long to actually start building a circle of followers, then grow it from there by posting regular content, this will help in a number of ways:
- By growing your circle in google+
- By getting better rankings in the search engines.
- By increasing traffic to your website.
All social media outlets will help get the word out there, so if you are currently using some social media outlet that is working well for you.. then great, keep up the good work, but google+ will defently be an advantage so get this up and running and get social.
Fetch as google
Now that you have carried out all the necessary tasks to optimize your site for the search engines it is time to let google know about it. This is where fetch as google comes into play. Fetch as google is a tool inside google search console that you can use to let google know that you have created some wonderful new content, this results in google scaning your site and giving a boost to your rankings. The best part is that this tool is completely free!
That’s it for now folks.. remember implementing all of the above is important for SEO, this is how I get rankings in the search engines and now you can do this for all of your posts and pages. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below, I would love to hear your thoughts..
